Cutbacks

So the war for the hearts and minds ( and tax dollars) begins..

Firefighters are all overpaid anyway. They need to do cutbacks on salaries and pensions and not the services they provide. Retired Fire Captains get pensions that pay better than a million dollar 401K plan and they never have to contribute a dime to get it.

Since Max seems to be too busy, I'll leave a few sightings. Last week at around 11 a.m. Wednesday, I went by the Borders store on Fair Oaks east of Howe. It used to be a pretty well stocked and patronized store, but was it ever dead. Twenty or thirty customers inside. The sections I looked in (movies, books on entertainment, older fiction) weren't good, and the DVD area in particular which used to be pretty well stocked, was about 1/3 of what it used to be. I don't think this is indicative of a dead shopping area overall, but a sick store and shopping center (Pavilions). Arden Fair is limping along but still has okay business. Fry's on Northgate still doing good for computer items, but the DVD selection there is 1/2 of what it used to be. Didn't check the rest of the store. Wal-Mart on Watt/El Camino only seems really crowded around the first of the month now, and their selection on various luxury items is not as good as it once was.
